Aging Gracefully

This is your life so take control! Read the advice below to get you started on turning back time.

Health

As you get older aging can be difficult and worrying – health conditions and injuries become more likely at an older age. If you’re looking to slow down this process or even turn back time then there are a few things you can do to stay fit and healthy.

Many older generations are classed as that because of their age or how they look however, that isn’t what matters. The only ‘age’ that matters is how you feel on the inside and how old your body feels. Forget the numbers on the scales and blood pressure and just go with the flow by doing this you’ll help your body. Once you’re doctor is keeping track there’s no need for you to dwell on things. Just live for today – it’s how we all should!

I did say for get the scales but that doesn’t mean neglect yourself. Make sure your weight is healthy and what the doctor recommends for you – extra weight does not help the ageing process. Obesity can result in other issues – high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes etc. so be mindful of what you’re eating. There are equally dangerous risks if you are underweight. Talk to your doctor for advice.

Maintaining a healthy and ideal body weight into your golden years will slow down aging.

Exercise

Exercise is essential when trying to stay young and slow down your aging process. If you have a regime (light) that you do exercise a few times a week and stick to it it’ll do you the world of good. You’ll increase your muscle strength, stamina, balance and also bone density – a preventative of osteoporosis. Cardio exercise keep your heart fit and strong slowing the speed of the aging process.

Sleep

Sleep is just as important as your exercise routine – it will keep your body rested and looking younger. It will benefit how you look and feel during the day – less lethargic, fresh etc. There are various opinions but getting an average of 8 or 9 hours a night is a good place to start, you can figure out what suits your body along the way. Lack of sleep has been linked to premature aging. Your body will function better with adequate sleep. Research shows that it is very hard to recover from lack of sleep so try and keep a routine.

Laughter and a Happy Heart

As they say.. “Laughter is the best medicine”. This is very true because happiness in yourself and your life is what it is all about. Having a healthy and happy lifestyle with lots of laughter will make you feel young any day! Laughing naturally reduces stress which isn’t good for anyone, young or old. Laughter also helps circulation, lowers blood pressure, reduces negativity, improves respiration and encourages digestion and just in general helps your heart! All are good things so laugh and laugh often!

One of the worst things you could do is submit to your age and become older at heart. It is the strategy to age with fitness and health that can keep you young and give you the vitality that you desire. Use these tips to get these strategies together and learn better ways to combat aging.

Looking Ageless | Not Just A State of Mind

Looking-Ageless

A new friend asked me recently; “How old are you?” A little part of me was disgusted by as first I thought was do they think I like older or younger than they think. I brushed this aside however and thought to myself I’m just being paranoid for no reason. You do have your reasons however for not answering this question, but the fact is and I don’t think it’s just me that thinks this is that it’s a very hard question to answer accurately and with honesty. I think there is 3 kinds of age: chronological age, biological age and finally mental age. Looking ageless has really has to do with controlling the ages you have the power to take control of. I’ll explain to you what I mean by these 3 ages and give you some pointers on how to control them at the end of this article.

Chronological Age

This is just the day you were born. If you were born 60 years earlier then obviously you are 60 years old so there’s not much you can with your chronological age but it’s just a number once you don’t feel it. When asked what age you are by someone they usually mean your chronological age, I feel however there is an awful lot more to age than the dates on a calendar. That being said, your chronological age serves as a beneficial point of comparison for the other types of age.

Biological Age

While you’re your birthday gives you the accurate number of years you have been around for its your body that actually makes you feel what age you are. Things such as your brain function, cardio system, strength, endurance, and balance fall under this category. Genetics do enter play, however there are a lot of other elements that you can do something about. This you can control yourself at the best of times and it’s really up to you but once your active and lead a good life you will nearly always have control of this.

Psychological Age

Many people seem older than they actually are and vice-versa. “You really are just as old as you feel” sums this age up rather easily. I always maintain positive thinking is a good indicator of this age and how you feel is how you actually look and act.

Now that I have explained what the different ages are and you have a full understanding of them you can start doing the best things to help you look ageless. I will start here with your biological age and then move on down through to your psychological age.

If you want to keep your biological age lower than your chronological ager the big trick is to care for your health in all aspects of your life. A great start is to eat healthy fresh food and get lots of exercise whatever that may be. Healthy fresh food is an important part of maintaining a healthy body cut out processed food as much as possible and eat foods as natural as you can. Try to concentrate on things like whole grains and nuts, fruit, vegetables, lean or red meat, low-fat or high vitamin dairy and plenty of fish for the natural fats and oils it contains. Make sure that you get the correct mix of nutrients and fibre at this is very important.

Now that you know the foods to focus on what exercise should you be doing? Cardiovascular is the most important daily workout you should be doing as it gets your hearth rate up. Anything from walking, jogging, cycling or swimming after all it’s not a proper exercise unless you get the hearth pumping. Re3sistance training is also important this would include any kind of weight training as it helps in keeping your muscles strong and balanced. Balance and versatility workouts are fantastic to do regularly things such a Yoga, Thai Chi and Pilates are great not just for your quality of life but for your overall fitness. Once you have done a few classes you can practice much of it at home on a daily basis.

When talking about psychological age what I mean is having the right mind-set. The more positive and the happier you are will definitely help you to be youthful both by look and by feel. It should always be remembered to embrace life and everything that it should put in front of you. Things like prayer and meditation can really help you to be positive and this will have a positive effect on your day to day life. Yoga and other such things can help you to practice mediation and prayer and help you really appreciate everything that is going on arou8nd you. Remember a healthy body and a healthy mind are vital in remaining ageless.
